Position Summary
The Plumbing Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the plumbing department, ensuring productivity, profitability, and customer satisfaction. This leadership role includes managing staff, optimizing processes, driving sales and service excellence, and maintaining compliance with all codes and safety regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and support a team of plumbing technicians, dispatchers, and apprentices.
- Lead recruiting, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a positive team culture focused on growth, accountability, and high performance.
Operational Oversight
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily plumbing operations to maximize efficiency.
- Monitor job progress, technician productivity, and quality control.
- Ensure timely completion of jobs and that all work meets company and code standards.
Customer Service & Sales
- Ensure excellent customer service throughout all phases of service delivery.
- Handle escalated customer concerns and resolve service issues.
- Collaborate with sales teams or estimators to support sales efforts and upselling opportunities.
Financial Management
- Track KPIs (revenue, profit margins, call conversion rates, etc.).
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting for the plumbing department.
- Review job costs, manage department expenses, and identify areas for improvement.
Compliance & Safety
- Enforce company safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure all work adheres to local, state, and national plumbing codes.
- Stay updated on industry trends, certifications, and regulatory changes.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Technical Expertise
- Licensed Journeyman or Master Plumber (preferred but not required, depending on state regulations).
- In-depth knowledge of plumbing and septic systems, repairs, and installations.
- Minimum 5 years of plumbing experience, including 2+ years in a leadership/management role.
- Plumbing Contractor or Journeyman license preferred.
- Strong knowledge of residential and/or commercial plumbing systems.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and motivate teams.
- Familiarity with service software (e.g., ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro) is a plus.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Leadership & Communication
- Strong team management and coaching skills.
- Ability to motivate technicians and ensure high productivity.
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
Operational & Business Acumen
- Experience with scheduling software, job costing, and reporting.
- Proficiency in CRM and service management software (e.g., FieldEdge).
- Understanding of budgeting, profitability, and KPIs.
Problem-Solving & Process Improvement
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve service-related challenges.
- Focused on continuous improvement in service delivery.
Education & Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in plumbing service operations.
- 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role (Service Manager, Lead Technician, or similar).
- Experience working with residential, commercial, or industrial plumbing systems and sewer systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent (trade school or technical training preferred).
Compensation: $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
